Electrolysis Treatments

Permanent removal of unwanted hair, including the hair laser can't treat.

For the stubborn chin, jaw, and upper lip hair that comes with hormonal change, electrolysis is the only treatment with a permanent result. Performed by our qualified dermal therapists, in private, with the care and discretion you deserve.

"I never had this hair in my 30s. Now it's appearing everywhere and nothing keeps it gone for long."

Sound familiar?

  • Coarse dark hair appearing on your chin, jawline, or upper lip
  • You tweeze daily and dread the next regrowth
  • Laser hasn't worked because the hair is grey, white, or too fine
  • You feel self-conscious in close-up conversations or photos
  • You want a result that finally lasts, not another temporary fix

Hormonal hair growth is incredibly common, particularly through perimenopause, menopause, and other hormonal shifts. Electrolysis is the only treatment proven to remove it permanently, regardless of hair colour, skin tone, or what's caused the growth.

What is electrolysis

The only treatment recognised as permanent hair removal.

Electrolysis works at the root of the hair, gently disabling the follicle so it can no longer produce hair. Unlike laser, which targets pigment, electrolysis treats each follicle individually using a fine probe and a small amount of energy.

That means it works on every hair type, including the grey, white, red, blonde, and fine hairs that laser simply cannot detect. It also means once a follicle is treated successfully, that hair is gone for good.

Why electrolysis for hormonal hair

Hormonal hair often appears coarser and darker than other facial hair, but it can also be stubborn and resistant to other methods. Because electrolysis treats the follicle directly, it is the gold standard for permanent removal of this kind of growth, no matter the hair colour or the cause.

Advanced expertise in hair removal

The hair removal advice you won't hear in most clinics.

At Laser Skin Specialist, we hold advanced education and qualifications in the hair removal space. That means we can identify when laser is the right choice, when it isn't, and when it could actually make things worse.

Paradoxical Hypertrichosis (PH)

In some clients, laser hair removal can stimulate new, coarser hair growth in the very area being treated. It's most common on the face, neck, and jawline, and is strongly linked to hormonal hair patterns. Many clients arrive at our clinic having experienced this exact reaction, often after multiple sessions elsewhere.

Why most clinics won't tell you

PH is rarely mentioned in standard consultations because not every therapist is trained to recognise the warning signs. We assess your individual hair type, hormonal background, and treatment history before recommending the right method for you, whether that is laser, electrolysis, or a combination of both.

"If laser has made your facial hair worse, you're not alone, and you're not stuck with it. Electrolysis is the answer."

Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know before booking your first session.

Can laser hair removal make my facial hair worse?
Yes, this is known as Paradoxical Hypertrichosis (PH) and it's something many clinics don't discuss with their clients. In some clients, laser can actually stimulate new hair growth in the treated area, particularly on the face, neck, and jawline. Our team holds advanced training in hair removal, including identifying who is at risk of PH and recommending the safest method. If you have already experienced this, electrolysis is the most reliable way to remove the unwanted growth permanently.
How is electrolysis different from laser hair removal?
Laser targets the pigment in the hair, which is why it works best on dark hair against lighter skin. Electrolysis works at the follicle itself, so it removes hair of any colour, including grey, white, red, blonde, and fine vellus hair. Electrolysis is also the only method legally classed as permanent.
Does it hurt?
Most clients describe a brief tingling or warm sensation as each follicle is treated. Your therapist will check in throughout and adjust to your comfort. Sensitive areas like the upper lip can feel more noticeable, but most clients find it very tolerable. Numbing cream can also be recommended for your treatment if needed.
How many sessions will I need?
Permanent results take a series of treatments, because each hair has its own growth cycle and only hairs in the active phase can be effectively disabled in one session. Most clients see significant change within several sessions and full clearance over a longer programme. Your therapist will give you a personalised plan after your consultation.
Will I see results after my first appointment?
Yes, the hairs treated in that session are removed immediately and many will not return. Over time, with consistent sessions, the overall density and regrowth reduce dramatically until the area is permanently clear.
Is there any downtime?
Mild redness or small bumps may appear and usually settle within a few hours. You can return to your day right after your appointment. We recommend avoiding heavy makeup, heat, and sun exposure on the treated area for 24 hours.
Why is electrolysis priced by the minute?
Because every client and every area is different. Some clients come in for a quick 15-minute session focused on a few stubborn hairs, while others need a full hour to work through a wider area. Pricing by the minute lets you choose what suits your needs, your time, and your budget.
Can I combine electrolysis with other treatments?
Yes. Many clients combine electrolysis with our skin treatments and laser hair removal for darker hair areas. Your therapist will help you plan the right sequence so each treatment supports the others.
