Winter Skincare 101

Winter has arrived on the Gold Coast and it’s a chilly one! Given we are usually spoiled with warm, balmy days, you may have noticed your skin is feeling a little confused! As the moisture in the air decreases, you may experience dryness, sensitivity or inflammation.

Fortunately, there are a few changes that can be made to your homecare and clinical treatments to combat these changes and ensure your barrier remains nourished and healthy.  Once your skin is functioning optimally, it is the perfect time to correct concerns with more intensive treatments.

Here’s your guide to winter skincare…

Add Hydrating Serums

If you’re not already using a hydrating serum, now is the perfect time to add one in. Both dry and oily skin can benefit from adding extra moisture during winter.

For dry skin, we love to add an oil. The Lira MYSTIQ iLuminating Beauty Oil is a fan-favourite for a good reason! Lightweight, yet intensely nourishing, this oil harmonises with your skin to provide all-day hydration. It leaves luminous results with exclusive Mastiha Oil, Madonna Lily Plant Stem Cells, and Vitamin C.

For oily skin, lightweight hydration is key. We love the BIO Hydra Infusion. This ultra-hydrating serum is infused with Hyaluronic acid and Silver Ear Mushroom Extract for supple smooth skin. It provides healing Gold and Silver Minerals, Plant Stem Cells, B5 Vitamins and Nourishing Botanicals. Its anti-inflammatory ingredients also make it a great option for anyone dealing with acne, breakouts and congestion.

Make sure you ask your therapist for winter serum recommendations at your next appointment!

Switch to a gentle cleanser

Your cleanser is a key part of your skincare regime. However, it’s important to choose a product that leaves the skin clean and fresh but not stripped of moisture. If you notice your skin feels tight, dry or irritated after cleansing, it can be a sign you need a more gentle option.

The BIO Enzyme Cleanser is a great cleanser for use year-round. Not only is it ideal for hypersensitive, dry and dehydrated skin but the gentle enzymes help to exfoliate dead skin cells to ensure your complexion is refreshed.

Try a weekly treatment mask

A weekly treatment is a great way to boost your results in between professional facials. Over winter, we love incorporating the Lira BIO Hydrating Mineral Masque. This ultra-hydrating gel mask nourishes skin back to health with advanced mineral technology, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and green tea. Formulated to help soothe and calm inflammation, it is perfect for dry, dehydrated, hypersensitive skin, and rosacea.

Now is also the perfect time to hydrate and repair skin or target your concerns with more intensive treatments. If you’re bothered by things like pigmentation, texture, scarring or acne, we can help rejuvenate and renew your skin. Here are a few of our winter favourites.

LED Light Therapy

For those who are feeling dry, sensitised or reactive, a series of LED treatments is a good idea to restore barrier function and promote optimal skin functioning. Our Dermalux LED device offers 3 wavelengths for treating a range of skin concerns. These include blue (415nm), red (660nm) and near-infrared (880nm).

Red wavelengths penetrate deep into the skin’s dermal layer to specifically target cells at the source. The energy absorbed by the cells is then used to naturally improve cellular performance. It offers benefits including anti-aging, pain management, and wound healing.

Dermalux’s blue wavelengths kill the bacteria that cause breakouts while reducing the inflammation, pimples, and redness associated with acne. A reduction in lesions and an overall improvement in skin appearance are often seen in only a matter of weeks.

Infrared light therapy works by boosting cellular energy to encourage and enhance the body’s natural healing abilities. This light reaches the deepest layers of the skin promoting both aesthetic benefits as well as helping to assist with injuries and pain management.

Our LED treatments can be booked as a stand-alone treatment or added to your next treatment to optimise healing and results.

Lira Precise Peels

Winter is a great time to step up the strength of your current treatments. Our Lira Precise Peels are able to be customised to target your unique concerns, including acne, pigmentation, fine lines and ageing.

These targeted treatments contain potent active ingredients to resurface and refine the skin. We are able to fully customise your treatments to ensure they are safe and effective for all skin types, even sensitive.

As they are advanced, preparation with homecare and conditioning treatments may be required before commencing your course of peels.

Skin Needling

Skin Needling is one of the most popular treatments available at the moment – and with good reason! This treatment is able to effectively treat a wide range of concerns including fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, scarring, uneven skin tone and textural concerns.

This treatment uses tiny needles to create punctures in the skin. This triggers the body’s natural healing response, helping to regenerate cells, encourage skin remodelling and promote collagen and elastin production.

It’s important to note that skin needling can only be performed on skin that has been adequately prepared with homecare and facials/peels. If your skin is inflamed or you have active acne/eczema/psoriasis or other reactive conditions, we must wait until this has subsided. Your therapist will be able to advise the best plan for your needs.
